Movable Wall Repair Delta by Marriott Cheltenham Chase

We were called to the Marriott Hotel Cheltenham as they could not move one of the panels of the conference room movable wall system. This had been an on-going problem and a previous contractor had advised that all of the rollers needed replacing and the track required welding.

We attended site and found that one panel had dropped onto the floor and could be moved and thus the system was unusable. This had a knock-on effect and in the near future there was a wedding planned and the conference room needed to be segregated by closing the movable wall.

We designated a safe working area by deploying our yellow safety barriers at all of the entrances to the conference suite to inform people we are working within the area. Our initial inspection found that a roller had collapsed and broken away from the bearings so we needed to remove and replace it. As we carry common spare parts on our vans, we had these in stock so continued to remove the panel through the gate section within the track. The offending roller was removed and a new one fitted. Once this was replaced we then had to realign the panel using a laser level ensuring a perfect seal between the adjacent panels.

We then inspected the issue where the track was apparently broken and found that in that area a number of fixings were missing from the original installation causing the track to drop out of alignment when a panel was coming out of the stacking area putting excess force on the rollers. Access to this area of the track was limited but we did install additional fixings from the track to the steelwork which eliminated the fault.

Then the system was fully tested, panels cleaned and demonstrated to the hotel manager.
